Dear visitors,
Welcome to our website of Turkey's first engineering department of Polymer Materials Engineering Department specialized for plastic and rubber materials.
Plastic and rubber materials, which are included in all areas of our lives, have become very important for the economies of the country due to the industry it creates in terms of both production and processing. Polymers can be used in various applications to the extent permitted by the human mind. Customer demand, highly demanding global markets, competition among manufacturers, rising raw material prices, increasingly environmental problems are the most important factors shaping the plastics industry. The solution of these problems is to increase education and research activities. In addition to synthesis, structure illumination and development, polymer technology needs to advance in processing and process development areas. The Department of Polymer Engineering was established with these needs in mind.
The teaching faculty is composed of 6 Professors, 2 Assoc. Prof., 8 Assist. Prof. and 7 Teaching Assistants (3 holding PhD degree); 23 in total. In the undergraduate program, 264 students are enrolled, 53 students are enrolled in the master's program and 19 students in the doctorate program; continuing education and training activities on polymeric materials. In addition to national projects, the academic staff of the department is also involved in various international research projects and publishes articles in prestigious international journals. Students benefit from Erasmus Student Exchange Program and international scholarship programs. The curriculum of the department is 30% English and students who fail the proficiency exam are taught English preparatory program. Students have the right to earn a second diploma with double major and minor programs.
It is among the department's priorities to ensure that our students are trained as engineers who are sensitive to the environment and human health, researching, developing ideas and producing solutions, taking into account the priorities of recycling processes, and prioritizing the processes from the source to processing of polymeric materials. In addition, our program provides our students with the opportunity to develop themselves in their fields of interest with a wide range of elective courses in line with international trends.
As can be seen, within our department’s academic and dynamic education approach, we have qualified graduates who can work in many fields such as polymeric materials, in academic life and private sector.
As Polymer Materials Engineering Department of Yalova University, we are proud of the achievements we have in our journey that we have started as taking the initiative in our country. We are excited to see the contributions of our esteemed students in our future success. We invite all students interested in this special profession to study Polymer Material Engineering.
Kind regards
Prof. Dr. Hamit ERDEMİ
